Apache action arrives in Activision's latest triple-A title

The Apache helicopter has a long and chequered history in the world of videogames, but rarely since the 16-bit Strike series has it been the star of the show. That's about to change as Activision has just announced the release of the forthcoming Apache: Air Assault, from Gaijin Entertainment.

The Russian developer is perhaps best known for its work on terrific console flight sim IL-2 Sturmovik: Birds of Prey, and will use its genre expertise to craft a tense and action-packed experience, as players pilot the eponymous choppers through some of "the world's most volatile warzones".

There'll be plenty of bang for your buck, with 16 multi-stage missions involving air-to-air and air-to-ground combat in a globe-trotting plot which sees you flying over the Middle East, Central America and Africa, all recreated in impressive detail from satellite imagery. The campaign also features co-operative play, while a host of multiplayer variations are available.

As with IL-2 Sturmovik, Gaijin has thoughtfully included Arcade and Realistic game modes, the former helping those less versed in flight simulators, and the latter offering more authentic controls that genre veterans will enjoy mastering.
Apache: Air Assault will be landing on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 this Autumn.
