XCOM: Enemy Unknown to feature tailored PC interface

Firaxis Games has revealed that its forthcoming strategy revival XCOM: Enemy Unknown will include a number of features to offer the best possible experience for hardcore PC players.

Chatting to PC Gamer, lead designer Jake Solomon said the PC edition of XCOM will differ from the console releases in key ways, such as the inclusion of a standalone tactical user interface that uses mouse and keyboard to maximum effect.

Mr Solomon also suggested that Firaxis is hoping to make the game friendly to the online modding community, continuing the trend established in Firaxis titles such as Civilization V, which allowed fans to create their own campaigns.

"Of course that's what we want. We want to make a distinct experience for the different platforms," he added.

Also coming to Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 this autumn, the title is a reimagining of the classic 1993 title UFO: Enemy Unknown and will challenge players to fend off an alien invasion with classic strategy gameplay.

Additionally, 2K Games is working on a first-person shooter based on the XCOM series, which is also due for release this year.
