Homefront 2 "will make a big splash", promises Crytek

Acclaimed developer Crytek has expressed confidence that its forthcoming sequel to last year's hit shooter Homefront will help the series to win new fans.

Chatting to GamesIndustry International, Crytek's Nick Button-Brown said the Crytek team is hoping to capitalise on the strong awareness and compelling world of THQ's politically-charged action game to create a superior sequel.

Homefront was released to much fanfare on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC in March 2011 and is set in a future version of America that has been occupied by Korean forces.

Featuring an innovative multiplayer mode and a story by filmmaker John Milius, the game topped the all-formats chart on its debut, with an Ultimate Edition release due out later this month.

The follow-up is scheduled for 2014 and will see Crytek, the team behind the classic Far Cry and Crysis franchises, taking over from Kaos Studios on development duties.

Mr Button-Brown said: "I think with Crytek quality attached to it and similar marketing attached to it, it can make a big splash at the time it comes out."
