Gamescom 2020: Announces and New Trailers

The annual event Gamescom was hosted virtually this year. There were plenty of new trailers and demos that gave us a sneak-peek into the future of gaming… it didn’t disappoint! Here are the highlights from Gamescom 2020.

Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War

The new Black Ops game was announced last week, and during Gamescom they revealed what players can expect for the campaign. During the presentation, Raven Software’s Dan Vondrak revealed the game will be “infused with player choices and freedom,” including creating your own character and their own military background. Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart

On opening night, Insomniac Games showcased the upcoming Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart with a demo on the PS5 and it’s seriously impressive. You can watch the seven-minute demo above where you’ll watch Ratchet and Clank battling their nemesis Dr. Nefarious. In the extended demo, you’ll see them travel through different dimensions to vastly different planets harnessing the power of the PlayStation 5.

LEGO Star Wars The Skywalker Saga

Possibly one of the most exciting reveals was the gameplay trailer for LEGO Star Wars The Skywalker Saga. You can watch it above. The game is set to release in Spring 2021 and you can pre-order it here.

Star Wars Squadrons

EA showcased a brief single-player gameplay trailer for Star Wars Squadrons. We got a first look at an Imperial mission within the cockpit of a TIE Fighter followed by plenty of action. There were also brief views of other spacecrafts on a variety of missions available in the single-player campaign. You will be able to play any of the missions from Star Wars Squadrons in VR or from your TV. This game will be released on 2nd October and is available to pre-order here.

Unknown 9: Awakening

During Gamescom, the developer Reflector revealed Unknown 9: Awakening. This new narrative-driven adventure game will be released on next-gen consoles and PC. The trailer was light on detail but left a lasting impression. In the trailer, we see a young girl named Haroona who discovers her supernatural abilities whilst being confronted by bullies.

Dragon Age 4

Executive producer Mark Darrah and other developers working on Dragon Age 4 revealed new concept art, in-development footage and announced the return of character Solas. There were 43 new images for Dragon Age 4 set in various locations including an underwater realm. Unfortunately, a plot wasn’t revealed so we are hoping for more information from Bioware soon.

Fall Guys: Season 2

Fall Guys topped the PlayStation charts as the most downloaded game in PS Plus history. After the incredible launch success, Fall Guys: Season 2 is coming in October. During opening night, the developer Mediatonic revealed a sneak peek of what’s to come. This new season is inspired by the medieval ages with new levels and plenty of new skins.

Destiny 2: Beyond Light

A new trailer for the expansion Destiny 2: Beyond Light revealed the new subclasses players can enjoy this Autumn. We knew Statis will give every class a new subclass to play and the trailer announced the names of these. Bungie has said that these will be the most customizable subclasses in Destiny 2.

Little Nightmares 2

Bandai Namco showcased a new gameplay trailer for the sequel Little Nightmares 2, as well as the release date – February 11 2020. You can watch the 15 minutes of gameplay above. In this new game there will be a new playable character, Mono, as you work alongside Six to escape the distorted world.

Gamescom Award Winners

Across the weekend of Gamescom 2020, various awards were handed out. Cyberpunk 2077 was awarded Best of Show, Best PC Game, Best Role-Play Game, Best Sony PlayStation Game AND Gamescom ‘Most Wanted’ Consumer Award. It’s safe to say Cyberpunk 2077 is highly anticipated – you can pre-order it here.
