Legendary Pokémon VS Mythical Pokémon

With each generation of Pokémon holds the excitement of learning about all new Legendary and Mythical Pokémon. If you aren’t familiar with what this means and want to find out, you’re in the right place! We’ll take you through both Legendary and Mythical Pokémon and even give you a sneak peek into the future.

What's The Difference Between Legendary & Mythical Pokémon?

As easy as it can be to confuse the two, there are some notable differences between Legendary and Mythical Pokémon!

Legendary Pokémon

Legendary Pokémon are extremely rare and powerful Pokémon, usually featured in the legends of the Pokémon world. You’ll also probably recognise several legendary Pokémon without directly knowing who they are. Why is this? Well, each Pokémon game will usually feature their legendary Pokémon on the cover art of the game, using them almost as a game mascot.

Things to note about Legendary Pokémon is that they’re awesome, rare and can’t evolve. Rather than ‘evolving’ in the traditional sense, some can change form, to a duo or trio.

Duo's

According to Bulbapedia, a Legendary Duo is a pair of closely related Mythical and Legendary Pokémon. They can represent teamwork or opposition.

Trio's

Similar to Duo’s; a Legendary trio describes a group of three closely related Legendary Pokémon.

Mythical Pokémon

Mythical Pokémon are incredibly mysterious and rare Pokémon, due to them being some of the rarest Pokémon in the Pokémon world, some even question their very existence.

Mythical Pokémon tend not to see too much action in games but are heavily hinted at. You’ll find yourself wanting to research these Mythical Pokémon in the hopes of clues, until the fateful day they are revealed!

You can obtain these Mythical Pokémon through Mystery Gift’s within the game. For example, with a purchase of the Poké Ball Plus, you receive a very special bonus. Each Poké Ball contains one of the most iconic Pokémon ever; the Mythical Pokémon, Mew.
