Beijing not enough to deter Mario Kart Wii

The success of the Great Britain Olympic team in Beijing could be one of the reasons for the recent leap in sales of Beijing 2008 this week, but the rise is still not enough to take it to the top of the charts.

Sega's official Olympics game climbed from 13th place to third in the ChartTrack All Formats Top 40 for the week ending August 16th, but was still unable dispose Nintendo of the two top positions.

Wii Fit saw its fourth reign at the head of the chart brought to a premature end after being relegated to second spot for the week by Mario Kart Wii.

Mario Kart Wii made its move from third in the previous week to top the chart.

Further down Sega's Mario & Sonic may also have benefited from the Olympics by moving up into fourth, with Wii Play continuing the dominance of the Nintendo Wii games in fifth.

Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock is a non-mover at six, Soul Calibur IV has fallen to seven, Big Beach Sports lies at eight, Brain Training comes in at nine and Guitar Hero On Tour completes the top ten.

Mario Kart Wii is seeing a continued increase in sales in recent weeks, with sales in the previous week increasing by 11 per cent.
