Mario Kart Wii out on April 11th

Nintendo has announced that its Mario Kart Wii game will be released in Europe on April 11th.

The game comes with a peripheral called the Wii Wheel and offers five different control options - the Wheel itself, the Wii Remote combined with the Nunchuk, the Wii Remote turned on its side, the Classic Controller and the GameCube controller.

This demonstrates the versatility of Nintendo's next-generation Wii, helping to explain its popularity.

Mario Kart Wii will also include 16 new tracks, as well as 16 tracks from previous Mario Kart games.

In addition, players will be able to tune into the Mario Kart Channel to observe their rankings and those of other players - or to jump into friends' races.

Mario Kart is a massively popular spin-off franchise from the Mario series of games, including characters such as Mario's brother Luigi, Princess Peach and Mario's nemesis Wario.

The original Super Mario Kart was released for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1992.
