Picking up the trend for game's to get turned into novels which add to the background story, PC and Xbox 360 shooter Gears of War is set to hit bookshelves.
Outlining events which occurred before the game begins; The Pendulum Wars - The Battle of Aspho Fields is to be written by Steven L Kent and will be released later this year.
According to the official blurb, the book "builds upon the characters backstories and gives eager fans their first in-depth look at some of the past events that shaped the games world".
Mr Kent is no stranger to the world of gaming, as he has previously penned The Ultimate History of Video Games.
And having already written three sci-fi novels about cloned Marine soldiers, the story of Gears of War is unlikely to be much of a departure for him.
This follows the launch of a Mass Effect prequel novel titled Revelations, which is to be followed up with another book based on the hit role-playing game later this year.
