Pokemon Battle Revolution to be first Wii WiFi game

Nintendo has announced the launch of the first game for its Wii console that will include WiFi connection play - Pokemon Battle Revolution.

When it launches on June 25, the latest game in the popular Pokemon series will also be the first game to link the Wii to the handheld Nintendo DS, with players being able to control the game using the DS.

They will also be able to import characters from upcoming DS games Pokemon Diamond Version and Pokemon Pearl Version.

Other Wii games to be released in the second quarter include Super Paper Mario (the first Mario game on the Wii), the multiplayer Mario Party 8, and Big Brain Academy. The latter builds on the success of the brain training games launched on the DS format.

"With strong third-party support, Wii and Nintendo DS have games on the way for both casual and veteran gamers," said Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime.

"Our new ways to play have attracted millions of players around the world."

The innovative Wii console makes use of a high-tech controller that uses an infra-red sensor bar to detect the movement of the player's arm.
