Red Faction: Armageddon coming next year

Action gamers are to be invited back to the surface of Mars for another adventure with the announcement of a new Red Faction game for next year.

Publisher THQ has announced that gamemaker Volition is working on Red Faction: Armageddon, which is due to come out on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC in early 2011.

The new game follows Darius Mason, grandson of Red Faction: Guerilla's hero Alec Mason, who finds himself fighting to save all of humanity after unwittingly unleashing an ancient evil force.

Armageddon will take players through lava tubes and ice caves, utilising Nano Forge technology to reshape their surroundings and tackle foes with refined physics-based abilities.

Gamers can expect to see some of the most realistic destruction yet seen in a game thanks to the Geo-Mod 2.0 engine, while multiplayer enthusiasts will be catered for by new cooperative modes.

This will be the first new game in the series since Red Faction: Guerilla debuted to critical acclaim in 2009.
