Nintendo has confirmed that its most famous icon will be returning this year with the release of New Super Mario Bros Wii in November.
A follow-up to the hit DS title New Super Mario Bros, the game will once again see Mario return to his 2D sidescrolling roots as he jumps and fireballs his way through colourful worlds.
However, a variety of new twists will be provided by the Wii version, including motion controls which allow players to tilt see-saws, shine torches and spin the new propeller suit power-up.
Four-player support will also be provided, allowing Mario to team up with Luigi and the Toads to tackle obstacles together, steal each other's coins or swallow each other up while riding Yoshi.
Nintendo said: "There really is something for everyone in New Super Mario Bros Wii."
Mario fans are also eagerly looking forward to the blockbuster 3D sequel Super Mario Galaxy 2, which hits the console next year.
