Molyneux: Proud of the process of Fable 2

It isn't solely the new innovations used on Fable 2 that have impressed Peter Molyneux; it is the manner at which the game was created.

Speaking with Develop magazine, the studio head of Lionhead Studios revealed that some important lessons were made in the development period of the original Fable title.

He said: "If you asked me what I was most proud of in Fable 2, it's not actually any of [the innovations we introduced]: I'm most proud of the process."

Mr Molyneux indicated that in the development process of the original title, team members were working 80-hour weeks, month after month.

"It destroyed their lives and destroyed their marriages," he remarked.

However, he added that lessons have been learnt and in the creation of Fable 2, many workers were given Sundays off and it was only in the latter stages that people gave up their weekends.

A review of Fable 2 by the Edge last year stated that the title "ranks with the best videogames can offer" and builds gradually before becoming "irresistible".
