It is "fantastic" to get recognition for the success of Fable 2, according to the title's developers.
After the game picked up the best 'Action and Adventure' accolade at the Video Game Bafta awards ceremony, Peter Molyneux, studio director at Lionhead Studios, was in a joyous mood.
He said: "The team at Lionhead put a great deal of passion, hard work and care into making Fable II, so it is fantastic to get this kind of recognition from both fans and the judges."
Mr Molyneux added that the award will "take pride of place" in the offices of Lionhead Studios.
Fable 2 is an action role-playing game that is exclusive to the Xbox 360 and was deemed to be the best game of 2008 by the Daily Telegraph at the end of last year.
The title's "terrific combat" helped it to hold off the challenge of Fallout 3, which was crowned as the second best title of 2008 by the publication.
