Star Wars: The Force Unleashed writers receive WGA award

The writers of action-adventure favourite Star Wars: The Force Unleashed have received a major award for their work on the game, it was confirmed at the weekend.

LucasArts quartet Haden Blackman, Shawn Pitman, John Stafford and Cameron Suey were given the prestigious Writers Guild of America (WGA) Videogame Writing prize in a ceremony conducted simultaneously in Los Angeles and New York.

They managed to stave off competition from Bethesda's Fallout 3, Command and Conquer: Red Alert 3, Tomb Raider: Underworld and Dangerous High School Girls in Trouble to land the award.

Although only companies that are members of the WGA's New Media Caucus were allowed to be up for the prize, those which joined at the same time as submitting their entry were also permitted.

The awards ceremony, which was conducted by the east and west branches of the WGA, also saw the latter hand its first-ever Jean Renoir Award for Screenwriting Achievement to Suso D'Amico.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed was developed for the PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, PSP, Nintendo Wii, Xbox 360 and Nintendo DS.
