World of Warcraft tops most played list

PC Gamers in the US spent more time playing World of Warcraft than any other title, research has found.

Nielsen has discovered that the PC game was played more than the other games in the top ten combined.

The average World of Warcraft player is on the game for 671 minutes every week, with 0.7 per cent of the owners of the game online at any one time.

Second in the list was Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, which is played on average for 403 minutes by its users every week.

Also popular was Halo: Combat Evolved, The Sims and The Sims 2 and RuneScape.

In addition, Nielsen found that despite being the top seller in 2008, the Nintendo Wii was not the console of choice, with three times as many playing hours on the PS2.

The research group regularly analyse various media outlets and create top ten lists, also specialising in movies, TV shows and online web brands.
