World of Warcraft PC fastest seller

Blizzard Entertainment has stated that World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King did very well on its opening day on the market, becoming the fastest-selling PC game ever.

According to the developer, World of Warcraft's second expansion managed to surpass the opening day sales figures achieved by its predecessor The Burning Crusade.

More than 2.8 million copies were sold of World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King, a figure marginally better than the 2.4 million The Burning Crusade achieved in opening day sales.

Mike Morhaime, chief executive and co-founder of Blizzard Entertainment, said: "We're grateful for the incredible support that players around the world have continued to show for World of Warcraft.

"Wrath of the Lich King contains some of the best content we've created for the game so far, and we look forward to seeing even more players log in to experience it in the days ahead."

However, despite such strong sales figures, World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King could only debut in second spot in the UK ChartTrack All Formats Top 40 behind Call of Duty; World at War.
