Dying Light to get tie-in novel

#

Upcoming parkour-based zombie sandbox Dying Light won't just allow you to mash undead heads in, it will also let you read about undead heads being mashed in. That's because the game, from Dead Island developer Techland, is getting a tie-in novel.

It will be a prequel to the game and follows Mel Wyatt, an 18-year-old American athlete who is trapped with her brother in the fictional city of Harran at the start of the zombie outbreak.

The book has been written by author Raymond Benson, who has prior form in video games having written novelisations of Metal Gear Solid, Hitman and Homeland. He's also one of the writers chosen by Ian Fleming's estate to continue the James Bond novels – he's written six of those, as well as adaptations Brosnan Bond movies Tomorrow Never Dies and The World Is Not Enough.

“Writing the origin story for Dying Light was an exciting adventure for me,” Benson says. “I’d always wanted to try my hand at a zombie-genre tale and this gave me the perfect opportunity. The folks at Techland created a rich and intriguingly bleak setting for the game, so that gave me a wonderful and creepy world in which to play around.”

No release date has been announced for the book, though it will likely be available alongside the game, which launches for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on 30 January.
