The Witcher 3 delay is just for polishing

When it was announced that hotly-tipped RPG The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt had been delayed to May 2015, fans could be forgiven for gnashing their teeth a little. The game had originally been due to launch this winter.

However, Marcin Iwinski, boss of developer CD Projekt RED, has explained to website Nerdacy that the delay isn't to finish the game – which is reportedly now complete - but to thoroughly test and polish the epic adventure.

“What it will result in is a smoother and more engaging experience and, yes, the game looking better across all platforms,” Iwinski said of the delay. “The content is locked, so no content changes are being made at this point. The scale of the open world in the Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is unprecedented, so fear not – there is enough gameplay to keep you playing for weeks.”

The current figure being quoted is around 120 hours of gameplay and story, including material related to secondary playable character Ciri. “We decided to introduce her as a playable character because it adds a lot to the narrative, and offers gamers a unique perspective on the story,” says Iwinski.

The Witcher 3 is set to launch on 19 May 2015 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.
