Review Roundup - Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare Day Zero on Xbox One at

The annual release of a new Call of Duty game is now a tradition as reliable as Halloween and Bonfire Night, and right on cue here's Advanced Warfare to ease you into the darker nights with an arsenal of futuristic weaponry. Is it cause for celebration, or a disappointment?

It's "the biggest and most successful departure from what's expected from a Call of Duty game since Modern Warfare brought the series into the 21st century" according to IGN. The site drops a 9/10 score and explains that the game "hasn't discarded the the excellent, fast-paced run-and-gun shooting that made Call of Duty a household name". It goes on to praise new lead development studio Sledgehammer Games for using the sci-fi setting to make Advanced Warfare "faster and more focused than any Call of Duty game before it".

"Advanced Warfare adds enough and moves far enough forward with its new abilities to feel like a risk," says Polygon's 9/10 review. "Turns out, that's just what the series needed," it concludes. Official Xbox Magazine UK comes up with an 8/10, and offers a rallying cry for absent COD fans to return to the fold thanks to the change in pace in multiplayer brought about by the agile EXO suits your character wears. "For those that have drifted away," it says, "as the game has only got faster and faster with each passing year, this could be the game to change their minds."

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is out now for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC.
