Review Roundup: Borderlands The Pre-Sequel!

Wacky four-player co-op loot drop RPG shooter Borderlands welcomes a new addition to the family this week but, as the title suggests, it's neither sequel nor prequel. Set in between the first Borderlands and Borderlands 2, it takes you to Pandora's moon where low gravity, limited atmosphere and other environmental tricks impact the way you play.

IGN is impressed, praising the decision to explore the backstory of Borderlands 2 villain Handsome Jack. “The new gear and low-gravity mechanics mixed with the zany skill trees makes for a fresh experience,” reads the 8/10 review, “and with Jack at the center driving the story forward, you get a deeper dive into the always entertaining, if well-traveled universe of Borderlands

Developed by 2K Australia rather than original series creator Gearbox, the Official Xbox Game calls it “the most Australian game ever made” thanks to its Aussie slang-spouting characters. “This feels like the beginning of a new take on Borderlands,” says the 8/10 review, “a more reactive, immediate, Australian game, better built for lone players but still accommodating for the co-op crowd.”

GamesRadar calls it “a hilarious, fan-focused continuation of the series' core values” in another 8/10 verdict, while The Escapist describes it as “a funny cartoon shooter that compels you to keep playing and score more guns.”

Sounds like it's exactly what fans of the series will be hoping for: more of the same, with a twist.
