Lego Batman 3 will have season pass DLC

In a first for the long-running and widely adored Lego game series, upcoming entry Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham will offer a season pass and an ongoing menu of DLC downloads.

Six pieces of downloadable content are planned, which between them will add a further 40 characters to a game that already features dozens of DC Comics heroes and villains, as well as an exclusive new story mission.

The first three packs will be available on the same day as the game, 14 November, and certainly seem designed to tickle the fancy of comic book fans. The Dark Knight pack is inspired by Christopher Nolan's movie trilogy, and features a stage based on the freeway chase from the second film. You'll be able to play as Batman and Jim Gordon, as well as The Joker. Bane and Catwoman from The Dark Knight Rises are also included.

The Man of Steel pack is based on the opening of the Zack Snyder movie, and lets you play as Superman's parents – Jor-El and Lara – as well as their robot Kelex, as you fight to prevent Zod's forces from invading your home while preparing baby Superman for his journey to the stars.

Finally, there's the Batman 75th Anniversary pack in which you control The Joker and Harley Quinn, setting up a series of probably-evil celebrations for Batman. This pack also includes a host of new costumes, taken from the Caped Crusader's long career, including his very first appearance in Detective Comics #27 from 1939.

The remaining three DLC packs are still a mystery. Maybe the Riddler has hidden them somewhere.

The season pass will only be available for the PS4, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS3, and PC versions of the game. The game is also out for PS Vita, 3DS and Wii U.
