Batman: Arkham Knight swoops on a new release date

Batman Arkham Knight Release Date

The third and final game in Rocksteady's Batman: Arkham series finally has a release date. The brooding superhero adventure lands on 2 June 2015. That's a worldwide release date, so the UK, US and rest of Europe all get it at the same time.

The game was originally slated to launch this year, in the series' traditional October berth, but it was bumped back to allow the London-based developer more time to make it extra polished. The game marks Batman's debut on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, so you can't blame them for wanting to get it right.

The game once again gives you complete freedom in a virtual Gotham. This time, however, you'll be able to get around in the Batmobile, a drivable vehicle for the first time in the series. The city has been completely redesigned to accommodate this transport, and it will also play a role in combat.

The story pits the Caped Crusader against a mysterious new threat: the Arkham Knight. This is an entirely new character, the first time a video game has been allowed to introduce an enemy into Batman's rogue's gallery. The identity of the Knight is something you'll need to work out as you play, but we do know that he looks like a heavily armoured Batman, and fights using much the same mixture of martial arts and gadgets – but without Bruce Wayne's aversion to killing. Yikes.

Batman: Arkham Knight is out on 2 June 2015 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
