The Evil Within is closer than you think

It's not been easy for fans of survival horror, looking forwards to Shinji Mikami's return to the genre. The Evil Within, the new game from the Resident Evil creator, was originally due to launch at the end of August, but was delayed until October. Europe was slated to get the game on the 21st of that month.

Thankfully, publisher Bethesda has now announced that the European release has been brought forward by a week to October 14th. That's the same day as the US, and earlier than Japan.

The game casts you as belligerent detective Sebastian Castellanos, investigating a mass murder at a hospital. Once inside, things get seriously weird and you find yourself under attack by a mysterious phantom called Ruvik. As you'd expect from the man who invented Resident Evil, there are lots of puzzles, lots of exploring and not very much ammo to help you against the various creatures out for your blood.

In a fun bit of trivia, the sinister Ruvik will be voiced by Oscar-nominated actor Jackie Earle Haley. He played Rorschach in Watchmen, and Freddy Krueger in the 2010 Nightmare on Elm Street remake, so it's fair to say he knows how to be scary.

The Evil Within is out for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC on October 14th, just in time for Halloween.
