The PS4 has had a glorious launch but as with all new consoles, titles can be a little thin on the ground for the first few months. Thankfully this spangly expanded version of Dynasty Warriors 8 has enough content to last an entire epoch.

'Epic' always been the series' battle cry - from the enemy-choked battlegrounds and the huge selection of characters to the multiple endings and history-soaked storylines, Dynasty Warriors likes it big and it likes it beefy. And this ultimate version of the latest iteration, now available for the PS4 (and Vita), is no different.

Combining the original eighth entry with a rich raft of bonus features, PS4 owners will be be bowled over by the character roster that now boasts 82 fighters (each with their own special moves) with the best, newcomer Lu Bu (sporting butch ponytails), getting his own story campaign. Whoever you decide to play as, you're charged with smashing down rival factions in a frenzied fight for ancient China.

This fight sees you taking to one of 40 stages and facing-off in the third person against vast numbers of enemy forces, using some seriously oversized weaponry and spectacular special moves to put the boot in. And thanks to the PS4's horsepower, those battlefields feature even more foes to rip asunder in a frenzy of button-bashing.

As well as featuring all the content from Dynasty Warriors 8, you also get a heap of new stuff in this Complete Edition including the aforementioned Lu Bu and his campaign, new story missions and an expansion of the much-loved Ambition mode that sees you starting as a lowly foot soldier who must carve a bloody path all the way to the top echelons of your chosen faction.

Throw in co-op play online and off - and PS4 owners can expect the most comprehensive in the series' long, illustrious history. And for those of us not familiar with the franchise's sword-wielding action, this is a perfect introduction to Dynasty Warrior's OTT delights.
