Far Cry: The Wild Expedition compilation due in February

Ubisoft has confirmed that it will be releasing a compilation of the three core Far Cry games, plus digital spin-off Blood Dragon, next month.

The original game was a sensation on PC, setting a new benchmark for graphical excellence. Set on an entirely open tropical island, it allowed you to set traps and creep through the undergrowth as you investigated dodgy genetic experiments.

Sequel Far Cry 2 took a completely different approach, setting its action on the African savannah and ditching the science fiction elements of the first game in favour of a sun-baked tale of mercenaries and corruption.

Far Cry 3 combined the best of both games, with a tropical island setting and a slick mixture of hunting, sneaking, all-out action and a barking mad storyline that saw you turn from terrified kidnapped tourist to ruthless avenger. You could also punch sharks in the face.

Finally, Blood Dragon was an insane downloadable sideways leap for the saga, pitched as a gaudy (and gory) 1980s sci-fi action flick. You played as Rex "Power" Colt, a cyber-commando voiced by Terminator star Michael Biehn, collected wacky weaponry and even rode into battle on the back of a gigantic komodo dragon.

It's a fascinating and bizarre franchise, if only because there's no narrative connection between any of the games. What they do have in common is the fact that they're all awesome and some of the best shooters of the last decade.

From February 14th you'll be able to pick them all up in one go for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. We call that a bargain.
