Need for Speed: Rivals gets a free Mustang

Owners of EA's Need for Speed: Rivals have received an early Christmas present: they can now download a free in-game version of next year's Ford Mustang, technically making them the first members of the public to test drive the new car before it hits the streets in 2014.

As you'd expect, the virtual version of the car has been modelled and coded to both look and drive exactly like the real thing. "We worked closely with the development team at EA to provide them with engineering data for the new Mustang, several months before we showed it to the rest of the world," Ford product licensing manager Mark Bentley said. "Computer design models enabled the game developers to create an accurate representation of the new Mustang before it goes on sale."

The iconic Ford Mustang muscle car has been around for 50 years, and has appeared in every Need for Speed game since the series began in 1994. The connection between the car and the game is so deep that it'll be a Mustang that Breaking Bad's Aaron Paul will drive in next year's Need for Speed movie. That car is already available in Rivals, along with a Shelby GT500 Mustang police car.

Need for Speed: Rivals is out now for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC. If you haven't seen it in motion on the next gen consoles, head into your local GAME and take a look - it'll blow your socks off.
