Warcraft movie cast confirmed

Legendary and Universal have released the official cast list for the oh-my-god-it's-actually-happening live action Warcraft movie.

Taking the lead role, once pegged for Colin Farrell, is Ben Foster. He's carved an interesting career out of critically acclaimed dramatic hits like The Messenger and Ain't Them Bodies Saints, but isn't averse to bit of the old blockbuster, as his winged turn as Angel in X-Men: The Last Stand proved.

Joining him are Travis Fimmel, of the gritty historical action show Vikings, and Paula Patton, best known for appearing opposite Tom Cruise in Ghost Protocol, the fourth Mission: Impossible movie. Rounding out the lead characters are a couple of Brits. Toby Kebbel has previous videogame adaptation experience in Prince of Persia, but don't hold that against him. Watch him in Shane Meadows' terrifying Dead Man's Shoes if you want to see his real acting chops. Former EastEnder Rob Kazinsky, who also turned up in this summer's Pacific Rim, is on board too.

The plot of the Warcraft movie takes place a long time before us lot were able to wander the digitised realms of Azeroth. It tells the story of the first contact between humans and orcs, and will supposedly follow the conflict from the perspective of both sides.

Filming starts next month, but it won't reach cinemas until early 2016. The film had to shuffle out of its planned Christmas 2015 release slot when a little indie flick called Star Wars Episode VII claimed the same date.

While you wait, why not dip back into World of Warcraft and brush up on your lore? Blizzard recently announced the game's next expansion - Warlords of Draenor - so there's that to look forward to as well.
