Gran Turismo 6 GPS app will turn real life routes into racing tracks

How's this for a surprise addition to Gran Turismo 6's growing arsenal of cool features? Already this week SONY has revealed that you'll be able to drive the 1971 Lunar Lander in the game, now it's been announced that there will be a post-launch app that will track your drives in real life and recreate them in the game.

It's all part of an update that will add a Course Creator option to the game, allowing for user-designed content. "We will add the possibility to generate a track by capturing the GPS coordinate data of a mobile app while you are driving," reads the update on the official GT6 website. "This GPS-generated track will be available in the game as playable content."

If your car is swanky enough to have a Controller Area Network (CAN) system installed to monitor the performance, you'll also be able to import that data into the game to create exact replays of your own driving. That Sunday morning dash to the supermarket for milk will never be the same again.

Gran Turismo 6 is out on December 6th for PlayStation 3.
