Battlefield 4 multiplayer modes revealed

Last week Activision lifted the lid on the new online modes that will make their debut in Call of Duty Ghosts, so now it's Battlefield 4's turn to take the stage and show us what it will be offering out of the box when it launches.

There will be seven ways to play online, with five beloved classic modes returning - that would be Conquest, Rush, Team Deathmatch, Squad Deathmatch and Domination - and two all-new ways to play.

First of these is Obliteration, described by DICE on the official Battlefield blog as "one of the most frantic and high-paced modes available in Battlefield 4". Obliteration matches find both teams chasing a single bomb which spawns randomly on the map. Grab the bomb, get it to one of the other team's three bases and detonate it to win. "The single available bomb creates a strong focal point of action, with both teams risking it all to be able to bring the bomb to the enemy base," says DICE. "It's a game mode all about staying on the offensive and all about being a mobile team player."

Also new is Defuse, an infantry-only mode with no respawns for an even faster, more ruthless close quarters style of play. "More on Defuse later," teases DICE.

The announcement also confirms that the game will launch with ten maps, and all modes will be playable on all maps. More will be added as DLC, as usual.

Battlefield 4 launches on November 1st for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions will launch alongside the consoles.
