Batman prequel Arkham Origins has signed up an impressive voice cast to bring its brutal superhero saga to life. Roger Craig Smith will be playing Batman, with Troy Baker inheriting the role of The Joker from Mark Hamill.

Both are experienced top tier gaming actors. Smith is best known for playing Ezio Auditore in the Assassin's Creed games. He's also been the voice of Chris Redfield in the Resident Evil games since 2002, and has also voiced Sonic the Hedgehog since 2010. He's no stranger to superhero fare either - he's voicing Captain America in Marvel's upcoming Avengers animated series.

Troy Baker will be most familiar to games from his substantial starring role as Booker De Witt in Bioshock Infinite. Baker is already an established player in Batman-related gaming - he voiced Robin and Two Face in Arkham City, and played Batman himself in LEGO Batman 2. He's presumably mates with Smith as well, since he's voicing Hawkeye in the Avengers cartoon.

But what of Kevin Conroy, the man who played Batman in the seminal 1990s animated series and provided the superhero's voice in both Arkham Asylum and Arkham City? He confirmed his involvement in the game at a comic convention in Dallas, revealing that "we've been working for about nine to ten months on the next Arkham", but if Roger Craig Smith is playing Batman, where does that leave Conroy? Will this prequel tale be narrated by Conroy's older Batman?

Batman: Arkham Origins is due on October 25th for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC and Wii U. It follows Batman as he embarks on his vigilante career, facing down a gauntlet of assassins on Christmas Eve.
