Call of Duty: Ghosts confirmed

Who ya gonna call? Activision! After weeks of leaks and teases, the mega-publisher has confirmed that this year's Call of Duty game will be the heavily rumoured Ghosts, and it'll be out on November 5th.

The campaign began with a teaser mosaic on the official Call of Duty website. The mosaic was made up of profile pictures from everyone who logged into the site using Facebook and Twitter, and once enough pictures had been gathered, the image of a skull was revealed, along with the caption "The ghosts are real".

Little is known about the game, which will be developed by Infinity Ward. What has been confirmed is that it will not be connected to any previous Call of Duty games, with an entirely new story and cast. Ghosts will also use an all-new game engine.

A teaser trailer launched to mark the official announcement of the game shows masked warriors from throughout history, including African tribesmen, Spartans and Samurai. It ends with a trio of operatives pulling on their balaclavas. "There are those who wear masks to protect us all," intones the serious-voiced trailer man, suggesting an emphasis on covert ops.

More details on the game will be announced at Microsoft's next Xbox reveal on May 21st. For now, the game is confirmed for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC, Wii U, with the promise that it's also headed to PlayStation 4 and whatever the new Xbox is called. Looks like you just got the excuse you needed to pick up a new console...
