Review Round Up - PlayStation All-stars Battle Royale

SONY's answer to Nintendo's Super Smash Bros Brawl is out this week, pitting a bewildering array of classic PlayStation characters against each other in wild arena combat. The reviews for PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale are coming in, and it seems like the game is worth the time of both fighting fans and long-standing PlayStation owners.

IGN offers a healthy 8/10, praising SONY's Santa Monica Studio and developer SuperBot for creating "a bona fide fighting game" that is "vibrant and deep". "All-Stars comes packing considerable depth, one of the major things that helps it stand out", says the review. "This makes running through its roster fun, with differences between characters shining through."

Destructoid goes one better, awarding a glowing 9/10 score and offering special attention to the game's excellent multiplayer battles. "It had to successfully marry both casual and hardcore audiences together, provide a solid fighting game base, and offer enough variety to keep players going and trying out new characters," reviewer Chris Carter reminds us. "For the most part, barring the half-hearted campaign, they've greatly succeeded."

The Sixth Axis was also impressed, adding another 9/10 score to the pile. The ability to share data between the PS3 and PS Vita versions of the game was a hit with the site, along with the bright destructible arenas. "A brilliant purchase for both PlayStation and fighting fans," is their verdict. "Get some friends around - or play with them online - and have an absolute blast with SuperBot's brilliant debut."

So if you've ever wanted to see who would win in a fight between Nathan Drake and Sackboy, it seems this is definitely the game you've been waiting for.
