Square Enix ready to reveal Hitman: Absolution?

We all know that there’s a new Hitman game on the way – and we couldn’t be more excited to see the stealth series return. Now, a new trademark listing by Square Enix has suggested that the title might be Hitman: Absolution.

The listing was spotted by Siliconera – and then reported by Eurogamer – and was registered by the publisher’s European team, which makes sense as Hitman’s made by IO Interactive, a studio that’s based in Europe. The listing is registered for “computer game software”.

As Eurogamer points out, Square Enix hasn’t officially unveiled the new game – which would be the fifth in the series – but IO has already let slip that it’s on the way – although it’s also warned that the game will be hitting shelves by Christmas 2011 “at the very earliest”. Still, the best things in life are worth waiting for, right?

Hitman: Absolution – if that’s it’s real name – will move the stealth franchise on from the last game, Hitman: Blood Money, which hit the PC, PS2, Xbox and Xbox 360 back in 2006 to much critical acclaim. The new game will be aiming for the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360, and we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for more news.
