Tony Hawk is coming back to games

Legendary skateboarder Tony Hawk is working on a new game. He made the announcement on his Demolition show on US digital radio, where he repeatedly mentioned that he was involved in the development of a new skating game. It's "pretty cool" according to the famously laidback dude.

More formal confirmation came from publisher Activision, which released all the previous Tony Hawk games. "Activision can confirm that they have something in the works with Tony Hawk," said a spokesperson. "More info is coming soon."

Tony Hawk burst into gaming in 1999 with Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, a brilliant and accessible simulation of the sport that spawned two sequels. The seminal first game got an HD revamp just last year. Other titles in the series included Tony Hawk's Underground and Tony Hawk's American Wasteland, which introduced an open gameworld. Tony Hawk's Project 8 and Tony Hawk's Proving Ground followed. The series has been dormant after a couple of poorly reviewed motion-controlled spin-offs.

With a new generation of super-powerful consoles to work with, however, the time certainly feels right for the king of skateboarding games to return to his throne. Watch this space.
