We Happy Few

Set in a drug-fuelled, retrofuturistic city in an alternative 1960s England, We Happy Few is an action/adventure game in which you hide, fight, and conform your way out of a delusional Joy-obsessed world.

We Happy Few is the tale of a plucky bunch of moderately terrible people trying to escape from a lifetime of cheerful denial in the city of Wellington Wells. In this alternative 1960s England, conformity is key. You’ll have to fight or blend in with the drug-addled inhabitants, most of whom don’t take kindly to people who won’t abide by their not-so-normal rules.
Discover the retrofuturistic city’s dark history as you play through the intertwined narratives of three quietly rebellious citizens of Wellington Wells, each with their own strengths and weaknesses, as they face their pasts, prepare for the future, and engage in activities that aren’t exactly status quo in the artificially enthused society.

Explore the Dystopian Isles of Wellington Wells

Set in retrofuturistic 1960s England, you will find a city ravaged by war and rebuilt by delusionally happy people. Everything appears to be joyful in Wellington Wells, including the roads, the people, and its omnipresent television personality, Uncle Jack! However, it’s a big, idyllic world on the brink of collapse. You will discover the history of this world, and how it came to be just so beguilingly happy.

See the World from Three Distinct Points of View
Play as three flawed characters who explore their own connections to the events surrounding the rebuilding of Wellington Wells. They each have a unique storyline in which they interpret and react to the events around them in different ways. As you hide, conform, or fight back as each of them, you will encounter dark humour, a spot of hope, and even some redemption along the way.

A Dystopia of Your Very Own
In We Happy Few, no two playthroughs are alike.  While the citizens of Wellington Wells will always want to ensure that you’ve taken your Joy, the procedurally generated world will ensure that your experience with We Happy Few is different and unique.

Take Your Joy…or Don’t. The Choice is Yours

Aside from a procedurally generated world, there are many ways to customize your We Happy Few experience:
- Choose from a range of difficulties for new and experienced players alike,
- Play through the story, or customize the sandbox world to your liking,
- Try permadeath, if you want to satisfy all your masochistic needs,
- Collect recipes, scavenge items, and craft dozens of weapons, tools, and devices,
- Creep, crush, or conform your way through puzzles and encounters, and
- Fight with your bare hands or the crazy weapons you create.

Available to play on your Xbox One is the psychedelic title We Happy Few. A survival game with a difference, We Happy Few has been carefully curated to represent social themes of denial and dystopia through a drug-fuelled community. Each inhabitant takes a happiness drug, known as Joy, to forget their horrific mistakes during an alternative World War II. But this hallucinogenic drug has strange side effects that causes the community to act in a peculiar and haunting way.
Created by the curious Compulsion Games, We Happy Few has been developed by this small yet hugely talented studio team who commit to developing extraordinary games that push the norm of the gaming industry’s typical action-adventure titles. Although We Happy Few contains roleplaying and survival concepts, it mainly takes the role of a roguelike game. With permadeath settings and a non-linear storyline that can send your fate on a tangent by making even the smallest of decisions, expect interesting gameplay that is different every time you play.

Adopt a first-person perspective from three separate, playable characters as you explore the dark and mysterious island-town of Wellington Wells where the streets are filled with white-masked residents that wander in an unnaturally happy state. You are forced to survive in this idyllic town, where the three main rules are to dress to impress, be courteous and polite, and take your Joy. You quickly discover the consequences of not taking your Joy, as residents attempt to force you into conformity by injection, or try to kill you, as soon as they become suspicious. Steal food and items that will aid with your survival, whilst trying to secretly escape this drug-fuelled town. For fans of Tim Burton or films such as 1984 and Wicker Man, We Happy Few is a stylish stealth-horror that immerses you into a strange yet relatable world where social tension and denial runs high. Couple this with the brilliant Xbox One and it promises to be an exciting addition to the horror game genre.
