Watch Dogs is 'ideal' for Wii U, says developer

Watch Dogs is Ubisoft's new franchise for 2013, bursting onto the scene in a surprise announcement at last year's E3. In the open world adventure game, players take the role of Aiden Pearce and use his electronic gadgets to hack various aspects of the city in order to meet his objectives. In the demo released to announce the game last year, we saw him messing with traffic signals to create a pile up that would stop a target from escaping. Cool stuff.

Watch Dogs is currently slated for release on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 and PC, but the development team is currently investigating the Wii U and they like what they see.

"The connectivity between players with mobile devices, the way you can control the city, the immersion, all those are core and on any platforms we're going to ship on we're going to make sure we nail those pillars down," producer Dominic Guay said in an interview with aptly named lifestyle site DigitalSpy.

"We're still investigating how we'll use the tablet on the Wii U, but with the things I mentioned before, for us it's not going to be a weird stretch. It's natural. It's not a weird abstraction, it's not like I'm a space alien and now I'm using a tablet... Aiden Pearce is using a device to control the city, so it's quite easy to imagine what we could do with that."

Watch Dogs, or WATCH_DOGS to use its correct typographical title, is aiming for a release later this year.
