Thief offers 'a really big universe' for possible sequel

Stealthy swiping reboot Thief isn't out until the end of this week, but the developers at Eidos Montreal are already thinking about what comes next.

"Nothing's announced yet but we're very keen to see how people respond to the game," lead level designer Daniel Windfeld Schmidt said in an interview with Official Xbox Magazine. "We've built a really big universe around the first game, and there's a lot of layers to it - the world is really deep," added director Nicholas Cantin. "So there's a lot of possibilities to jump on."

Schmidt continues to say that, just like the 1998 original, the game doesn't have a lot of competition for first-person stealth. "Thief is really unique in its mentality. When it came out it was new, it was fresh, it was very different to all the other games of the time, which were very one-directional."

"I think we have the same situation with next gen game consoles now," concludes Cantin. "There's no game out there that's really like this."

Thief casts you as Garrett, a master thief in a semi-magical steampunk city. You're able to sneak, climb and hide as you explore the game world, looking for treasures to nick. According to Game Informer, it's "a gem that stealth fans should eye up for their collection."
