The Amazing Spider-Man 2 confirmed for 2014

There's a new Spidey movie swinging into cinemas next year, and Activision has confirmed that there'll be a new Spidey game to accompany it.

Developer Beenox is working on the game right now. That's the studio that was behind Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions, Spider-Man: Edge of Time and the previous Amazing Spider-Man movie tie-in, so they clearly know their way around a web.

Once again, the game will feature a free-roaming recreation of Manhattan and will pick up from the storyline of the last game, offering an alternate take on the events of the movie. The new film features Jamie Foxx as Electro, Paul Giamatti as Rhino and reintroduces Harry and Norman Osborne into the rebooted movie continuity. Lots of potential there for super villain dust-ups.

New to the game this time around is a J. Jonah Jameson inspired "Hero or Menace?" morality system. The game will reward you for keeping New York's crime levels low, but there will be negative consequences if you allow street crime to go unchecked while pursuing your objectives.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is due next Spring for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Wii U, 3DS and PC. In related news, the first Amazing Spider-Man game is coming to PlayStation Vita later this year, with new touchscreen functionality.
