Super Monkey Ball coming to PlayStation Vita

Sega has announced that the popular Super Monkey Ball franchise is to receive a new instalment for Sony's new PlayStation Vita handheld.

Set for release in 2012, the PS Vita edition of the classic series will once again see AiAi, MeeMee, GonGon and Baby rolling around elaborate stages collecting bananas while trying to avoid toppling off the edges.

The game will take full advantage of PS Vita's sophisticated control options, utilising a combination of tilt sensing, dual analogue sticks and the front and rear touch panels for maximum precision.

It will also include brand new worlds, updated graphics and a host of bonus modes, including the return of the popular Monkey Target game.

Sega's Gary Knight said: "Super Monkey Ball on PlayStation Vita is a great opportunity to experience the exciting features that the PlayStation Vita offers."

AiAi and friends recently helped to introduce the Nintendo 3DS to gamers in Super Monkey Ball 3D, which was released alongside Nintendo's console back in March.
