Sonic the hedgehog returns to home consoles with the release of the latest game in the series, Sonic Forces. With incredible graphics on the Microsoft Xbox One, Sonic Forces sees a return to the platform-based gameplay of previous instalments.

In development since 2013, Sonic Forces was revealed to the public in June 2016 with a range of great new additions to make it one of the most comprehensive Sonic games in decades.Not only does the game use the 3D platforming style that the franchise has worn for the last few years, but it also sees a return to the 2D side-scrolling style of gaming that older editions of the series utilised so well.

One new feature that’s sure to get Sonic fans and newcomers alike excited is the inclusion of avatar creation; a first for the franchise. Players can create a custom character completely from their imagination using a pre-set range of parameters. If gamers want to design a hedgehog like Sonic himself, they can. Or perhaps a cat, a dog or even a rabbit? With custom avatars, players can pick the species, the colour and the weapons and play through the game with a unique character.

Elsewhere, Sonic Forces lets players view a post-apocalyptic world destroyed by Dr. Eggman, as terrifying as that would be. Speed through a range of ruined landscapes as the modern version of Sonic while also being able to play as Classic Sonic in certain aspects of the game.

SEGA really hasn’t held back when it comes to the villains in Sonic Forces either. As well as Dr. Eggman, the game features Zavok, Metal Sonic and Chaos as well as a villain that will prove our spiky hero’s biggest challenge yet. But we’ll let you figure that one out for yourself.
