Review Roundup: Trials Fusion

Dizzying motorbike mayhem is the order of the day this week as Trials Fusion, the long awaited continuation of RedLynx's beloved stunt series, hits the shelves and online stores

Release Date: 17/04/2014

Dizzying motorbike mayhem is the order of the day this week as Trials Fusion, the long awaited continuation of RedLynx's beloved stunt series, hits the shelves and online stores. But since the previous game, 2012's Trials Evolution, was already highly praised, has the developer crashed over the finish line or soared over it in a victory pose?

“The Trials series increasingly faces a common creative challenge. Just how should it innovate when it has established an acclaimed, adored template founded on simplicity?,” asks Videogamer in its review. The 9/10 score should reassure fans. “Fortunately,” the review continues, “this problem has been addressed with great a melding of the established template and something just new enough, RedLynx’s creation is a wonderful thing.”

GamesTM is also impressed, dishing out an 8/10 score and praising the series for shifting to next gen consoles in style. “RedLynx has embraced the next-gen and taken the series to its next logical step,” reads the review. “Crucially, with this wealth of content and a more robust online system, it doesn’t just herald this as the ultimate Trials game, but also one that’ll have fans hooked for a long time to come.”

Edge isn't quite convinced that some of the new gameplay additions are necessary, but it reports that the core game beneath is still as great as ever. “When you land a difficult jump perfectly or finish a tough track with only 200, rather than 300, faults, it’s clear that despite the occasional wobble, Trials’ inimitable magic remains absolutely intact,” concludes its 8/10 review. There are also positive words and 8/10s from Eurogamer and CVG.

All of which suggests that Trials Fusion is a worthy sequel, and one that will please newcomers and existing fans alike. Trials Fusion is out now, from Xbox Live and PlayStation Network, as well as a boxed disc release, for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC. Rev it up!
