Rayman Legends getting 30 extra levels

Wii U owners can be forgiven for gnashing their teeth when it was announced that system exclusive Rayman Legends was not only going to appear on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, but was being delayed until September as a result.

"I wasn't shocked, but it was really hard for us," Rayman creator Michel Ancel told Official Nintendo Magazine. "Of course, there are more important issues and problems in the world but we worked really hard to make something and were so involved, it was difficult for us and the fans."

The good news is that not only will the delay mean that more people get to play the rather lovely looking platformer, a sequel to the superb 2011 hit Rayman Origins, but that Rayman Legends will now be an even bigger and better game than was previously planned. "Trust me, the things we are adding aren't minor," says senior game manager Michael Micholic. "We're not talking about adding some polish here and there, but 30 new levels and several new bosses."

So while the wait is frustrating, it's safe to assume that Ancel's famously perfectionist team is determined to compensate fans for the inconvenience. It's for that reason that the game's Challenge Mode is being released early for Wii U, and as a free download no less, later this month.

Rayman Legends is out in September for Wii U, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
