Rare Samus Aran amiibo sells for over £1500

Samus Amiibo Figure at GAME.co.uk

Nintendo's amiibo toys continue to make headlines, as a rare version of the Samus Aran figure has sold on eBay in the US for a staggering £1589. That's considerably more than the £14.99 asking price.

The reason for the high price, which was reached after more than 70 bids, is that the still-sealed model seems to be the result of a factory error, and portrays the Metroid icon with a cannon on each hand, rather than just one.

A different Samus Aran amiibo found viral success when it was discovered that the near-field communication capabilities interfere with the gates in the Moscow subway. Placing an amiibo on the swipe pad for travel cards turns the light green – though not for long enough for enterprising Russian commuters to get through the barrier for free.

And a Starfox amiibo recently wowed gamers by using its adaptive AI player data to reach the semi-finals of a Super Smash Bros Wii U tournament.

For those who haven't seen them yet, Amiibo are collectable figures that interact with Nintendo games such as Smash Bros, Hyrule Warriors and Mario Kart 8. There are 18 in the first wave, with more to come early next year – including former Mario rival Sonic the Hedgehog.
