Project Cars, the uniquely crowd-developed racing game from Slightly Mad Studios, will hit the track on November 21st, publisher Bandai Namco has confirmed.

Bandai Namco only came aboard the project recently, though. The entire game has been developed and funded by Slightly Mad with help from fellow racing simulator fans, who put not only their money into the game but also helped to design it. Unlike games funded on Kickstarter, those who invested in Project Cars became “members” and will share in the game's profits for the first two years after release.

Also helping to polish the game's driving systems have been Ben Collins, former Stig from Top Gear, Clio Cup and European Touring Car Cup racing driver (and Lewis Hamilton's little brother) Nicolas Hamilton, and former Formula Renault 3.5L and current ELMS driver Oli Webb.

Future updates will also make the game playable in virtual reality, with support planned for Oculus Rift and Sony's Project Morpheus headset.

It really is shaping up to be the dark horse of the 2014 racing game line-up, and we can't wait to see how it fares against the likes of Driveclub and Forza Horizon 2.

Project Cars will be available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on November 21st. A Wii U edition is planned for 2015.
