SONY's PlayStation 4 got off to an incredible start last year and shows no signs of slowing down. Chalk that up to incredible marketing, word of mouth and the impressive line-up of games slated to arrive this year. There appears to be nothing in its way, and with that being said, check out this short list of five highly anticipated games set to light 2014 on fire. Evolve on PlayStation 4 at GAME

Despite years of killing friends in competitive multiplayer games, we've never seen anything like Evolve. Created by Left 4 Dead developer Turtle Rock Studios, this brutal effort pits four players - choosing from Trapper, Assault, Support and Medic classes - against one, but don't feel sorry for the latter. He or she controls a terrifying creature that evolves over time, forcing their adversaries to make use of different weapons and team tactics to prevail; the four-person team views the action from the first-person, while their opponent sees things from a third-person perspective. It's the ultimate online boss fight, set within a perilous alien world where more than the beast can kill you. Ultimately, it comes down to whether you wish to become the ideal teammate or apex predator.

The SONY community cannot wait to play the next instalment to the acclaimed InFAMOUS series, and for good reason. This brand-new entry takes place within a re-imagined version of Seattle, where humans struggle to fight back against the oppressive Department of Unified Protection, otherwise known as DUP. Playing as newcomer Delsin Rowe, they'll transform the city into a dangerous playground as they harness his unique superpowers to combat the plethora of enemies standing in his way, with a story that evolves depending on the choices they make. In addition, Second Son makes stunning use of the PS4 hardware, with realistic weather and particle effects, phenomenal explosions and a highly detailed environment filled with eye candy.

After captivating gamers for more than 20 years with epic single-player adventures, Bethesda will attempt to capture the MMO crowd with the multiplayer focused Elder Scrolls Online. Players will team up and explore such locations as Skyrim, Morrowind and Daggerfall, pillaging caves, dungeons and castles in search of fortune and fame. They'll join one of three unique alliances and take part in massive battles involving hundreds of friends and foes brandishing razor-sharp melee weapons and magical powers. Beyond that, the game's customization system lets them build their ideal warrior, choosing from different pieces of clothing and gear. Thankfully, a smartly implemented levelling system puts gamers on a more even playing field, and social media integration easily groups people with friends and guild mates, giving both newcomers and veterans the chance to enjoy what this ambitious title has to offer.

Destiny on PlayStation 4 at GAME

After years of waiting, it's time to see what the talented developers at Bungie have been up to. Following its work on the Halo games, the team now turns its collective attention towards Destiny, an online connected first-person shooter that takes place in a solar system under siege. Featuring both competitive and co-operative multiplayer, gamers will choose a class (Hunter, Titan or Warlock) and attempt to save the last City on Earth from Vandals, Dregs and other enemies bent on their demise. The journey takes place on Earth, but also the Moon, Mars and other locations. Take a moment to admire the pretty scenery, but don't lose sight of the main objectives, which include unlocking new weapons, customizing your soldier and of course, making it out alive.

Snake returns, but don't expect a by-the-numbers Metal Gear experience. Ground Zeroes represents an evolution in Konami's award-winning franchise, beginning with an open world environment. For the first time, MGS fans will be able to explore at their leisure and tackle missions in different ways, choosing to go with trademark stealth or guns blazing; they'll even make use of vehicles and horses. This unparalleled freedom presents gamers will multiple choices, whether it involves sticking to the main story or partaking in Side-Ops missions that will have them completing both tactical assaults on the ground and in the air. In addition, Kojima Productions will use Ground Zeroes to showcase its impressive FOX Engine, which allows for jaw-dropping graphics featuring remarkably lifelike animations, complete with an almost non-existent HUD that never gets in the way. It all ties into the second act, The Phantom Pain, that will release across multiple platforms at an undisclosed date.
