No objections - Phoenix Wright is coming to Nintendo 3DS

The rather wonderful Phoenix Wright is returning to Capcom's Ace Attorney series, the Japanese publisher has confirmed. The majestically coiffured legal eagle will be back in court for Ace Attorney 5, having handed the previous game over to the flamboyantly named Apollo Justice.

The Ace Attorney series began in 2001, and quickly became a cult hit in the UK and US when translated. Surreal and hilarious, they follow the eccentric Phoenix Wright as he defends bizarre suspects from outrageous charges by gathering his own evidence and then using it to derail the prosecution with a well-timed cry of "Objection!" The character is so popular in Japan that he's been the subject of both a stage musical and a live action movie directed by cult director Takashi Miike.

According to Capcom's announcement the story for Ace Attorney 5 will find Phoenix teamed up with a new female partner, as they investigate an explosion at the courthouse. It'll be the first game in the series to offer 3D visuals, and players will now be able to choose different facial expressions when delivering evidence in court.

No release date has been given for Ace Attorney 5, but we'll get our Phoenix fix soon enough anyway, as he'll also be starring in crossover game Professor Layton vs Ace Attorney.
