New Transformers game revealed

Activision has announced that it will be publishing a new Transformers game later this year. Rise of the Dark Spark was revealed at the New York Toy Fair, and will follow on from previous Transformers games, War for Cybertron and Fall of Cybertron.

The game will feature co-operative play for up to four players throughout the story campaign, as well as a wave-based survival mode called Escalation. Your character and experience is consistent across both story and multiplayer, so any skills earned can be carried over. Although the game will not be based on the upcoming movie sequel, Age of Extinction, it will apparently act as a bridge, linking the game series together with Michael Bay's movie saga.

Unlike Activision's recent Transformers games, which were created by Full Moon Studios, Rise of the Dark Spark will be developed by Edge of Reality. The studio has a long history, dating back to the N64 versions of Activision hits such as Spider-Man and Tony Hawk Pro Skater. More recently, it contributed to Bioware's Dragon Age and Mass Effect series.

Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark is due later this year for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Wii U, Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC. There will also be a 3DS game, developed by Duck Tales Remastered studio WayForward, which will reportedly be a strategy RPG rather than an action game.
