Mortal Kombat X heading this way

Get your mop and bucket ready: Mortal Kombat is coming back with Mortal Kombat X on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC

Mortal Kombat X announced for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.

Get your mop and bucket ready: Mortal Kombat is coming back. The tenth entry in the long-running and gore-soaked fighting game series has been confirmed by developer NetherRealm. The aptly named Mortal Kombat X will mark the series debut on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, as well as being released for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.

Among the new features is a persistent online component, in which every match contributes towards a "global battle for supremacy". You'll also be able to choose between different versions of the characters, with each variation offering different moves and skills, changing your fighting style and adding a splash of bloody strategy to the proceedings.

"Mortal Kombat has always been about over-the-top, visceral fighting and with Mortal Kombat X we wanted to utilise the power of new-gen consoles to give players our most intense game yet," said Ed Boon, NetherRealm's Creative Director. "The team has worked hard to make sure Mortal Kombat X delivers everything fans expect along with new characters, new game modes and an all new graphics engine."

Expect more news from E3 next week, where the game will make its public debut. The game itself is expected in shops in 2015. It's going to get bloody.
