Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn to relaunch this summer

Square Enix has confirmed it will relaunch the online multiplayer Final Fantasy 14 this summer, with the new subtitle, A Realm Reborn.

The game was originally released in 2010 but taken offline in 2012 when Square decided it wasn't good enough for fans. Since then, the game has been completely overhauled and reworked with a new server system, graphics engine and a world map that features 40 zones rather than eight. The user interface has also been rebuilt from scratch.

"We believe Final Fantasy 14 is a starting point, and that players joining us will think 'oh wow, this is great, I'll see what they can do with Final Fantasy 15 or 16,'" producer Naoki Yoshida told Eurogamer last year.

A Realm Reborn will be available for both PC and PlayStation 3, and players will be able to interact online regardless of platform. The game will enter a third closed beta trial in June, for both PC and PS3, in preparation for the relaunch. If you'd like to take part, you can register at the Square Enix website.
