Earth Defense Force 2025 lands in UK next month

Bug-splatting co-op shooter Earth Defense Force 2025 will finally reach UK shores on February 21st, D3 Publisher has confirmed

Bug-splatting co-op shooter Earth Defense Force 2025 will finally reach UK shores on February 21st, D3 Publisher has confirmed. The game is the long awaited follow-up to the cult Earth Defense Force 2017, released back in 2007.

As with the previous game, you'll play as a soldier in the EDF, protecting the Earth from a B-movie style invasion of giant insects and towering robots. To aid you in your task, you'll be able to choose from four different combat classes. Rangers are your standard foot soldiers, and can use the many vehicles and mech suits that appear in the game. Wing Divers are female flight troops, equipped with jet packs. Air Raiders can summon artillery and missile strikes, as well as deploying health and vehicles. Finally, Fencers are the heavyweight tanks of the EDF troops, with powerful shields and a variety of fearsome weapons.

You'll pit those arsenals against oversized ants, spiders, wasps and bees, as well as thundering walking mechanical creatures known as Hectors. You'll be able to team up with three other players, as well as recruiting AI soldiers in the field.

The EDF series has won many fans for its ridiculously corny sci fi setting, and it's over the top destructive gameplay in which you can level an entire city block without consequence. Fans may also remember the 2011 spin-off, Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon. That one was developed in the west, but 2025 sees original Japanese developer Sandlot taking the helm once again.

Earth Defense Force 2025 will be available for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
